Appointment of Legal Assessors

The NMC appoints Legal Assessors to advise its Fitness to Practise panels on questions of law in accordance with Article 34 of the Nursing and Midwifery Order 2001.

Applications are invited from barristers, advocates or solicitors for appointment to the NMC’s panel of Legal Assessors. You should have relevant judicial, prosecution, defence or tribunal experience and have a 10 year general qualification: or be an advocate or solicitor in Scotland of at least 10 years’ standing; or be a member of the Bar of Northern Ireland of at least 10 years’ standing. We are particularly keen to appoint Legal Assessors qualified to sit in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
