First Law is assisting Hackney Council in its tender exercise to appoint a panel of barristers to provide specialist legal advice to the Council on a diverse range of work. The exercise is being conducted as a formal and open competitive tender
led and managed by Fayeon Fyfield at Hackney’s own procurement department with advice and
assistance from legal tendering company First Law throughout the anticpated nine month project.
This is the first exercise of its kind to be undertaken by a local authority and it has attracted expressions of interest from a staggering 725 barristers. We will be adopting a rigorous evaluation of submissions and creating some groundbreaking tender documentation. Our precedents will then be made available to other local authorities, so that they can conduct similar exercises in the future to improve service quality and obtain best value from external counsel.
